Title 1...What is it?
Title 1 is a federally funded program that has been in existence since 1965. The goal of Title 1 is to provide extra help and instruction in math and reading for the students who need it.
Title 1 can help:
*children do better in school and feel better about themselves
*parents understand their children better
*parents have more say about their child's education
*classroom teachers can benefit from support of the extra service and from the satisfaction of seeing children succeed
Title 1 programs generally offer:
*smaller instructional groups (5-6) or smaller
*additional teachers and assistants
*extra instruction in reading and other skills
*a variety of teaching methods and materials
Parents are a part of the Title 1 team!
Educational research suggests that a child's success in school is more likely when parents and school personnel work together. Students receive a better education when schools, parents, and communities are responsible for that child's education.
Things you can do at home to help your child at school:
*read to your child and allow them to read to you
*ask your child about school and take an interest in what they are saying and learning
*go through your child's bookbag everyday
*make sure they get enough sleep
*set limits on the amount of television they watch and video games they play
*make sure they get a good breakfast everyday

In order for this partnership to be effective, we need to be able to communicate. Please feel free to call, write us a note, or e-mail us if you have concerns or questions about your child's education. We are always available to schedule a conference to discuss any issue or concern you have regarding your child.
